Press / Reviews

"A week ago, I saw the Jeff Jensen Band perform at the Blue Café in Long Beach . For those of you who haven't seen them perform, they are a five piece blues band with energy to spare, rapidly maturing talent, and a true sense of the blues beyond their relatively youthful demographics. They are tight first rate performers. Jeff Jensen's guitar work and stage presence should be seen and heard."

Glengarry Bhoys: "Mountain Road" Review from Irish Music News

For the Bhoys, it seems to be 1999 all over again. Of the eleven tracks on this album, six were recorded on the two albums they released that year - "Full Contact Highlanding" and "The Gathering". Revisiting these favorites is justified by the changes in the band's personnel. Only leader Graham Wright, guitar and vocals, remains from the band's original lineup. A close listening to the various tracks shows how the Bhoys have advanced. In the earlier version, Donald MacGillivray begins with a vocal, accompanied on solo guitar and ends with a pipe and drum finale. The new version opens with the instrumental featuring James F. Libbey on pipes enhanced by Shelley Dowling on fiddle. The vocal is completely integrated with the instruments. The same integration of vocals and instruments is found throughout the album. Nigel (Gibby) Bazinet, bass guitar and Matthew Ramerman, drums constitute the strong rhythm section. Pick Me Up takes new life from the complex instrumentation. In fitting tribute to her growing importance to the band, Shelley is featured on two instrumental tracks. Just to top it all off, Mountain Road Remix gives the boys a turn at the techno dance sound.

Mountain Road can be purchased from www.Glengarrybhoys.com, www.MapleMusic.com, and is distributed by Universal Records.

If these Bhoys don't get ya' moving then your skin's on way too tight."

On their newest 2005 CD release, Mountain Road, The Glengarry Bhoys out of Canada blend the big beat and fat electric sounds of Celtic Rock with the rich and pretty sounds of traditional acoustic Celtic music.

The album contains their renditions of some familiar traditional tunes such as Donald MacGillavry, Star of County Down, Three Love Song and Barb's Kitchen.

There are also orginal tunes penned by band leader and album's producer, Graham Wright, those tunes Lexie Wright truly shows off the band's musicianship and ability to combine the traditional with the modern.  And then there is the love ballad, Over the Mountain and the rockin' Pick Me Up that not only showcase great vocals but could be pop hits.

Says Graham, "This album is a culmination of some of our favorite songs and a great mix of Celtic rock, original and traditional tunes... a maturity of the band over the past 7 years and quickly becoming a fhan favorite."

Glengarry Bhoys

Mountain Road

Keltic Cross Entertainment

The Celtic and Scottish excursions of the Canadian-based group, Glengarry Bhoys, perform

melodic, folk ballads with electric guitar on some of the songs. The mostly vocal album

incorporates strong, Celtic percussion and instrumentation, with the addition of bagpipes,

trumpets, bass guitar and keyboard. Mountain Road is a contemporary album with Celtic/Scottish

roots. Great music for fans of contemporary Celtic music with a truly modern twist. Purists

may cringe - but Mountain Road succeeds in conveying the true Celtic spirit through music

for generations to come.

Glengarry Bhoys - Mountain Road (Keltic Cross) - The highland pipes are way loud! If you want to compete, it's best you plug in and crank up. No acoustic instrument stands a chance against these mightiest of wind bags. Maybe that's why Celtic Rock's most potent one-two punch is the marriage of highland pipes and electric guitar. From Glengarry, Ontario, a Scottish stronghold in the New World since the early 1800's, comes the Glengarry Bhoys (the 'h' is from the Scottish Gaelic spelling ... originally pronounced 'voys'). They're three laddies and one lass who honor their highland heritage by blowing up traditional jigs and reels as they hone their own road-tested song craft. The band's making fans the old fashioned way, on tour, playing as many as 200 shows a year. Singer/guitarist Graham Wright says, "our biggest goal is to just keep getting better and better and progress every year. And of course with doing 200 shows a year that’s going to happen." Mountain Road follows smartly on the heels of last year's terrific 'Rhoots', a disc that featured the band's retooling of Big Country's eponymous hit. The new album opens in a hail of pipe and guitar volleys; a Scottish battle cry called 'Donald' which sets a blazing pace for the rest of the disc to follow.
