I have decided to put this section here to pay homage to the people who have brought me to where I am now. Learning lasts a lifetime and these are my guides, my teachers, my mentors. Great teachers are special people, and I have been lucky to have several. The best teachers are the ones who purely guide you to your goals, leaving you to do the real work, to achieve your own results. To them I say... "Thank you."
Ralph Humphrey is involved in a variety of sessions, including those for television, motion pictures, record albums and jingles. His work can currently be heard on the soundtracks of "Deep Space Nine", "Voyager" and "Dawsons Creek" with Dennis McCarthy. He’s also been involved in most of the animated shows for Warner Brothers over the last 5-6 years, including work on "Animaniacs", "Freakazoid", "Pinky and the Brain", "Tweety and Sylvester" and "Histeria". Other animated television programs he’s worked on include "The Simpsons" and "King of the Hill".
Ralph has also recorded sessions for the motion picture, "A Civil Action" and a new movie about the cartoon character "Doug". Live television performance credits include "The People's Choice Awards" with Dennis McCarthy and the "Grammys" with Jack Elliot.
Ralph’s musical ventures don’t stop at the end of a recording session or TV taping. He also teaches at the Los Angeles Music Academy and gives private lessons as time allows. The Los Angeles Music Academy is a one-year vocational guitar, bass and vocals. It attracts students from all over the world. Some of the faculty members include Joe Porcaro (Ralph’s partner), Mike Shapiro, John Robinson, Aaron Serfaty, Dave Beyer, Mark Shulman, Glen Sobel, Sherman Ferguson, Mike Packer and Tony Inzalaco. The guitar department is headed up by Frank Gambale. The bass department includes Jerry Watts, Jimmy Haslip and other young upcoming greats.
To satisfy his taste for live performance, Ralph plays in a band with Mike Miller and Jimmy Johnson. The band features Mike's eclectic mix of music, as well as originals written by Ralph. They’ll occasionally even throw in a Zappa tune. The material is quite challenging but always a lot of fun to listen to.
If by now you don’t believe that Ralph is quite busy enough, he would agree. When the time can be spared, he also writes for Modern Drummer Magazine. Ralph likes to say, "It's always a pleasure to do good music...".
